Winter is a Death Doom band that has gradually developed into cult status after its temporary breakup .

history

Apart from a demo tape, only one album was released, Into Darkness from 1990, and an EP with Nuclear Blast in 1994. In 1999, the album and EP were re-released on CD together, again in 2011 on CD and LP by Southern Lord. The band combines Doom Metal with influences from Death Metal and is considered to be the originator of modern Doom Metal due to their extremely slow play. They are also considered pioneers of Funeral Doom .

Guitarist Stephen Flam played for Thorn after the breakup . The band got back together in the late 1990s, but broke up after finding their new pieces to be inadequate for release. In 2011 the band performed at the Roadburn Festival .
