Winter gate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Winter gates are game enclosures in which red deer are kept with winter feeding to avoid excessive game damage during the emergency .

Idea and development

Winter gates are created in snowy mountain areas, into which the red deer can retreat in search of grazing . Due to human settlement and ski tourism, the game can no longer move to the valley areas with sufficient food following the natural, seasonal conditions . In order not to starve in the mountains, it causes great damage by peeling tree bark. At the beginning of winter, the game is lured into the gate by feeding and then locked. Only at the beginning of the next growing season is the gate opened and feeding stopped.
