Martin Schimke

Martin Schimke (born January 20,  1959 in Hagen ) is a former German basketball player and basketball official as well as sports lawyer .

career

Schimke was part of the Bundesliga team at SSV Hagen from 1977 to 1979, as well as from 1981 to 1983 and 1984 to 1986 . In the meantime, he played in the 1980/81 season for Hamburg TB in the Bundesliga and at the end of his competitive sports career for TSV Hagen 1860 in the 2nd basketball Bundesliga . He made the leap into the German national team, ran on July 1, 1978 at 121: 67 in Dorsten against Syria and on the subsequent trip to the USA for the German team. Before that, he was also a junior and national armed forces player. In 1975 he took part with the German junior team in the Albert Schweitzer tournament  and played there against the United States with Earvin "Magic" Johnson .

Profession and functionary activities

Parallel to his basketball career, Schimke completed a law degree at the Universities of Münster and Hamburg and then worked as a lawyer. In 1990 he obtained the degree of doctor.

From February 2000 to August 2003 he held the office of managing director of the Bundesliga club Brandt Hagen. From 2008 to 2010 Schimke was a partner at Giants Düsseldorf .

Schimke was a lecturer in sports law at the University of Hamburg in 1998 and 1999, and in 1999 he was appointed as a judge at the International Sports Court in Lausanne .

From 2001 to 2008 Schimke worked as a lecturer (including sports law) at the ISM University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund , and from 2006 to 2009 also at the BiTS  in Iserlohn . From 2007 he taught sports law at the Ruhr University in Bochum , and from 2008 as honorary professor of sports and labor law at the Fresenius University in Cologne . From 2010 to 2013 Schimke was a lecturer in sports law at the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef-Bonn and the German Sport University Cologne .

Between 1989 and 1999 Schimke was a member of the Legal Committee and the Anti-Doping Commission of the German Basketball Federation , and from 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the arbitration tribunal of the German Ice Hockey League . From May 2000 to August 2003 he sat in the license league committee of the Basketball Bundesliga .
