The Wipperkotten is one of two, largely preserved in the original, Schleifkotten on the Wupper in the Bergisch city of Solingen . The Kotten is used as an industrial and grinding museum and is one of the city's most famous landmarks.

The Wipperkotten is a Doppelkottenanlage and is located in the south of Solingen on the city border to Leichlingen (Rhineland) formed by the Wupper . It is named after the neighboring Wippe court . An upper ditch branches off from a weir and feeds water to the two undershot waterwheels , which are each suspended on their own wooden shafts between the inner and outer shells and whose power is converted into mechanical drive by grinding stones and polishing wheels.

The Wipperkotten was probably built in the 17th century. While the Innenkotten, which is located between the Wupper and the Graben, was used by a designer as a residential building with a studio or exhibition room after 1945, independent grinders still work in the smaller Außenkotten today and demonstrate the craft to visitors.
