Effective dose

Effective dose or effective dose is a term commonly used in medicine that describes the portion of a dose that has a certain effect.

The term has the following specific meanings:

• In connection with ionizing radiation (e.g. X-rays ), he tries to describe the biological relevance of various radiation applications ( effective dose , effective dose equivalent ).
• In pharmacology , the effective dose (ED), also known as the effective dose, stands for the dose of an active ingredient at which a certain proportion of individuals shows the desired therapeutic effect (example: ED ₅₀ indicates the corresponding dose for the proportion of 50%). The effective dose can be read from the dose-response curve .
