from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The North-West Lower Saxony Economic Archive is an institution of the State of Lower Saxony , the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for East Friesland and Papenburg (IHK) and the Chamber of Crafts for East Friesland (HWK). It is a public institution whose holdings and collections can be viewed for scientific research projects or other research while observing the legally prescribed or requested by the owners protection periods. The regional economic archive was founded at the end of 2009 and has the legal form of a foundation .

tasks

While documents from government agencies are usually collected in the state archives, documents from private-sector companies are lost or are stored in the companies themselves, but not accessed. This is where the economic archive comes in.

The central task is the preservation, development and provision of historically valuable documents from the economic life of the region. By collecting written material and other documentation, the archive secures information and acts as a data storage medium for research, for the donating companies and for the public. In addition, the Wirtschaftsarchiv Nord-West-Niedersachsen would like to support companies in setting up and maintaining their own archives as well as in creating company histories, commemorative publications and historical concepts. The archive works closely with the Lower Saxony State Archive - State Archive Aurich - and other archives, stimulates research on regional history with a focus on economic and social history and is also planning its own series of publications for this purpose.

Duration

Historical contracts, important image documents and other sources from the economy of North-West Lower Saxony from 1760 onwards are collected, including digital documents. This archive material is processed professionally and made accessible using finding aids. In addition to science and the general public, the donating companies also benefit from this, as they can make better use of their archive.

In 2015, the holdings comprised around 100 linear meters of files from chambers and companies in Northwest Lower Saxony. The economic archive has, among other things, processed the holdings of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for East Friesland and Papenburg in Emden, the Chamber of Crafts for East Friesland in Aurich and the locksmiths, mechanical engineers and blacksmiths in Emden. To this end, it continuously records, evaluates and accepts archival material from the region's economy. The archive's holdings are classified according to industries and business areas: fishing, retail (textiles, shoes), steel construction, shipping companies, marine equipment, shipbuilding, wood imports and wood processing, mills, horse and cattle trade, land trade, ironmongery, prefabricated house construction, chemical industry and products, Iron foundry, spirits production, wine wholesaling and bakery.
