Wishbone Ash is the debut album by the English rock band of the same name . It was released on MCA Records in 1970 .

history

This album quickly became a hit with Wishbone Ash opening up for Deep Purple that same year . The LP was produced by Derek Lawrence, who also worked for Deep Purple. The band already played their typical melodic guitar rock on Wishbone Ash , dominated by the harmonious interplay of the two lead guitarists and singers Ted Turner and Andy Powell. The titles can be assigned to blues rock and boogie rather than progressive rock . On the almost 7-minute Errors of My Way , the band's three-part harmony vocals and the 6/8 time clearly show that they are turning to Anglo-Celtic folk rock .

The cover photo shows a furcula , which is formed from the fused collarbones of a bird and has the shape of a divining rod (= wishbone); when burnt, the eponymous dowsing rod ash (= wishbone ash) is formed. On the back of the cover, the two branches that serve as handles are burned and partially crumbled to ashes.

In Great Britain, the LP was ranked 34th on January 23, 1971. As a single, Blind Eye was released in February 1971 with the B-side Queen of Torture . The album was first released on CD in 1992 on MCA.

reception

If the term “jam band” had already existed then, according to Dave Sleger in the All Music Guide , Wishbone Ash would have been described as “one of the most important representatives of this type of music” . He sees their debut album as a "nice addition to the genre" compared to other British hard rock LPs of the time .
