The Hannover Science Shop eV (WILA Hannover) is an ecological initiative from Hannover-Linden . Under the slogan "Future and Environment", the association imparts knowledge in the areas of environmental protection , society and sustainability . To this end, the Hannover Science Shop organizes numerous projects of its own.

history

The Wissenschaftsladen Hannover eV was originally founded in 1986 by students at the University of Hannover , mainly from natural science courses. Social science aspects were already included in the founding year. The most prominent founding member was the book author and sociologist Harald Welzer . The main aim was to make academic knowledge available to the population and to advise them on environmental issues. After a productive period in the 1990s, especially in collaboration with the Ecolog Institute, the science shop moved to the Faust cultural center in 2007 .

Projects

Utopianale film festival

The Utopianale is a documentary film festival that is held annually in the Linden leisure center . Documentary films on sustainability and environmental issues will be presented over a weekend under different mottos. In addition to the films, various workshops and hands-on activities are offered. The Utopianale has existed since 2013, at that time it was still held in the Faust cultural center , but with growing audience numbers it was moved to the Linden leisure center.

Cinema del Sol

The Cinema del Sol is a solar powered cinema. Since 2017 it has been held in various locations in the Hanover region during the warm months . As it takes place in the open air, the films can be shown on a mobile screen. The project is funded by the Hanover Region, the Sparkasse Hanover and Enercity pro Klima.

Good future meeting point

The annual street festival "feel like Linden South" of the Science Shop Hannover informed of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations . In addition, the WiLa offers action and information stands on the topic and interviewed experts on a stage.

Limmer neighborhood in Transition 2.0

WiLa is also a network partner of the Transition 2.0 project, in which neighbors from the Hanover-Limmer district are committed to more climate protection. In cooperation with Transition Town Hannover, the science shop is organizing a co-coaching project in which various ideas from residents are collected and, if necessary, implemented.

Move me

WiLa has been working on a research project as a local networking partner with the Technical University of Dortmund and the WZB Science Center Berlin for Social Research gGmbH since 2019. The aim is to illuminate the interaction between space and mobility and the changes in this, especially with regard to climate and environmental goals in the age of digitalization.

WiLa as editor and in literature

The Hannover Science Shop has also been the publisher of various publications, mainly for educational work with children and young people. The WiLa was also mentioned in the book Self Thinking , which was written by co-founder Harald Welzer ("I was - apart from a phase as an anti-nuclear power plant protester and later as a co-founder of a science shop - never eco [...]") Des Furthermore, in the anthology City, the WiLa is reported on several pages as an opportunity space.

financing

The Hannover Science Shop is a non-profit association. He works cost-covering and not profit-oriented. The facility has been supported with institutional funding in the funding directory of the state capital of Hanover (Department of Environment and Urban Greenery) since 2017. The association finances the majority of its work through project funding. The projects of WILA Hannover currently (as of 2019) are funded by the municipality, ministries, foundations and private sector funding programs. The financing is rounded off by a contribution from the association or cooperation contributions from partner organizations.
