With His Hot and Blue Guitar is the first studio album by country singer Johnny Cash . It was released on October 11, 1957 on Sun Records under the production of Sam Phillips . The album was the first LP ever released by Sun. Four songs had previously been released as a single.
Content
The songs deal with topics that were typical for Cash. There are pieces about trains ( Rock Island Line , Wreck of the Old 97 , Folsom Prison Blues ) and about convicts ( Folsom Prison Blues , (I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle Blow , Doin 'My Time ). Cash's first gospel recording is also included with I Was There When It Happened . Country life is also thematized ( Country Boy , If the Good Lord's Willing ), and the album contains ballads about failed and strange love affairs ( So Doggone Lonesome , Cry, Cry, Cry ).
With I Walk the Line , another song about love is included, which also became Cash's first number one hit on the country charts .
