Wittfeld , called Wetfelde in the early days , is a peasantry in the former Hamborn community , now a district of Duisburg . Around 970 the piece of land was referred to as "Weitfelde iuxta Havenburnen" in the property register of Werden Abbey . The Wittfelder Mühle on the Emscher already existed as a grain mill in 1353, later also as a sawmill. Industrialization began here in the middle of the 19th century. In November 1899 August Thyssen began sinking shaft 4 of the German Emperors' union in Wittfeld .
