Wizlaw (Cammin)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wizlaw was a Roman Catholic clergyman in Pomerania . He was elected bishop (Bischof- Elekt ) of Cammin from 1294 to 1296 , but his election was not recognized by the Pope.

Wizlaw was the custodian of the Camminer cathedral chapter . After the death of Bishop Jaromar , who died in 1293 or 1294, the Camminer cathedral chapter elected Wizlaw as the new bishop. In the years 1294 and 1295 he issued certificates as "electus ecclesiae Caminensis".

He personally moved to Rome to get the Pope to confirm his election as bishop. But Pope Boniface VIII rejected the election because it should not have been canonical . Instead, the Pope appointed a minister named Peter who was active in the Curia as the new Bishop of Cammin. This is reported by a papal bull dated January 9, 1296.

Wizlaw accepted the Pope's decision and resumed his previous position as cathedral custodian. As cathedral custodian, he can be traced back to 1297 and 1298.
