Vladimir Georgievich Motschalow

Vladimir Georgievich Motschalow ( Russian Владимир Георгиевич Мочалов , born May 21, 1948 in Moscow , USSR ) is a Russian cartoonist and graphic artist .

Life

From 1960 to 1967 Motschalow went to the Moscow Art School, which is affiliated with the Jh. I. Surikowa Art School. After graduating, he worked as a graphic designer in the state printing company "Gosznak" (Гознак). He was the author of graphics for postage stamps and postcards.

In 1970 he began distance learning at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, which he finished in 1976. While studying, he started drawing caricatures. His first drawing was published in 1973 in the Russian satirical magazine "Krokodil" (Крокодил) . In 1978 he received an invitation from "Krokodil" to work as a technical editor. In 1979 he took over the deputy of the main painter in the "Crocodile". From 1984 to 2000 he worked there as the main painter and member of the editorial board. In 1999 he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief. During his time with the "Krokodil" he received several awards for the best work of the year.

In addition to his work for "Krokodil", he was a cartoonist and layouter for the Russian newspapers "Izvestia" , "Sobesednik" and "Nowoe wremja". In 2000 the new owners stopped the satirical magazine "Krokodil" for financial reasons and fired all employees.

From 2000 to 2006 Motschalow worked as the artistic editor of the magazine “Nowoe wremja” and as a cartoonist and designer for the newspaper “Nowoe russkoe slowo”.

From 2009 to 2013 Motschalow co-designed the television program “Multlitschnosti”. A cartoon was made about well-known personalities from politics and culture for the show. He drew the people. Then the drawings were made into 3D cartoon characters.

Awards

In 1993, Vladimir Mochalov received a personal thank you letter from the President of the United States, Bill Clinton , for a political portrait.

In 1997 he set a record in high-speed drawing. He painted 111 portraits within an hour and achieved great resemblance to the people depicted.

Exhibitions

Permanent participant in the annual exhibition of graphics, painting and caricature in the Russian Federation and abroad.
