Houseboat
A houseboat is a firmly anchored floating body on which people can live permanently.

In contrast to actual boats , especially houseboats , houseboats can be transportable, but not (any longer) as independent watercraft . Rather, they are floating structures without their own propulsion system (floating homes) and their external appearance cannot be equated with boats.
In areas with large bodies of water or in densely populated urban areas with high real estate costs, houseboats serve as permanent homes for many people. Large systems are called residential ships.
Houseboats are often decommissioned inland vessels with corresponding conversions or superstructures.

In Europe and America one often encounters construction methods that were primarily designed for residential purposes. The hull is then usually not streamlined and, due to its longer durability, is often made of waterproof concrete . In addition, such forms do not have their own drive. In Hamburg, for example, nine swimming houses have been built on the Eilbek Canal .

Advantages and disadvantages, but also costs, of a houseboat do not necessarily differ from conventional apartments on the mainland. For example, most of the moorings for houseboats in the Netherlands must be officially approved. At many landing stages (for example in the center of Amsterdam ) the size, construction and external appearance of such boats are subject to strict rules. Houseboats not only have to have an official house number there, they also have to have supply connections (gas, water, electricity) and a connection to the public sewer system.
