Residential building on Bürgermeister-Smidt-Strasse 120
The residential building on Bürgermeister-Smidt-Strasse 120 in Bremerhaven - Mitte , Bürgermeister-Smidt-Strasse 120–126, was built in 1954 according to plans by the senior building councilor a. D. Karl Franzius built.
The buildings have been under Bremen monument protection since 2009 .
history
The modern, six-, seven- and eight-storey, three-wing residential complex with 72 apartments with 1, 2 and 2½ rooms was built in 1954 for the Bremerhaven municipal housing company (Stäwog) and a community of interests. The contemporary arcades are characteristic (nickname therefore Sing-Sing ). The main wing is set back from the street by 12 m; in front of it a green forecourt.
The State Office for Monument Preservation Bremen found: "After the skyscraper on Lloydstrasse (free area 1, 1952), the apartment building on Bürgermeister-Smidt-Strasse 122/126 is one of the outstanding examples of urban mass housing construction in the early 1950s ..."
Karl Franzius (1905–1993) designed houses and churches in Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven .
Today (2018) there are apartments in the house as well as offices and shops on the ground floor.
