Stefan Loose (born April 30, 1946 in Rochlitz , Saxony) is a German traveler and namesake, initiator and author of the Stefan Loose Travel Manuals.

Career

Stefan Loose spent the first years of his life in Saxony; In 1959 his family fled to Germany . Loose began a commercial apprenticeship in Munich . This was followed by studies in English and politics (graduation 1974) and a job as a teacher at a grammar school.

At the age of 15, Stefan Loose discovered his passion: in 1961 he traveled to Sicily, the following year to England, and later around the Mediterranean. In 1971 Stefan Loose went on the hippie trail to India.

In the mid-1970s, the idea of ​​writing a travel guide was born. In 1977 he met his future wife Renate Ramb. The Southeast Asia Handbook appeared in 1978; It was the prelude to a series that today (2019) includes over 40 titles, some also in English translation, two of which were awarded the ITB BookAward .

In 2002, Stefan Loose sold the publisher to DuMont-Reiseverlag , but is still active in the editorial work of the publisher and as an author together with his wife (as of 2019). Today his son Mischa (* 1982) is continuing some books.

Stefan Loose lives in Berlin .
