history

founding

On March 30, 1954, the founding meeting of the workers' housing cooperative of the Deutsche Reichsbahn Halle took place in the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk (RAW) Halle. At that time, 28 members joined the workers' housing cooperative (AWG). The AWG received financial support from RAW Halle and Rba Halle to make the first payments.

On July 18, 1954, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 21 residential units was set on Stichelsdorfer Strasse. In September 1955 the 21 newly built apartments were ready to move into. In 1956 twelve residential units were completed. By July 1957 a total of 75 residential units had been built. The construction of a further 57 apartments had already started - twelve of them should be ready for occupancy by December 1957. On April 15, 1957, the cooperative had 319 members.

In 1964 the AWG "Deutsche Reichsbahn" had 944 registered members. The residential buildings were built in the south of Halle, starting with the blocks on Vogelweide, in the Südstadt district .

At the same time, several cooperatives joined forces in Halle between June 8th and September 30th, 1965 to realize larger projects. A total of 28 large companies were now anchored in the AWG "Deutsche Reichsbahn". The number of members was 1049 in 1974.

The housing cooperative "Eisenbahn" belongs to the Association of Housing Cooperatives Saxony-Anhalt e. V. (VdWg).

Construction work in the 1980s

With the end of construction activity in Südstadt II, a new building area for around 30,000 residents was opened with the Silberhöhe . Two central high-rise buildings and the polyclinic formed the focal point. In addition, the tram lines were extended to Halle- Beesen . This meant that the south as far as the Elsteraue was also accessible in terms of traffic.

In 1978 and 1979 the first major inner-city construction projects began. 13 high-rise buildings were built on relatively small areas in the Vossstraße construction area.

Further smaller building areas were added in 1985 in Halle- Glauchau . Numerous small old houses in the Genzmerbrücke area had to give way to six high-rise buildings. New buildings followed on Jacobstrasse and Hirtenstrasse, totaling 189 apartments. By 1989, houses in the city center were demolished and replaced by new buildings, adding another 300 apartments for the cooperative.

New building activity

At the beginning of 2012 the first post-turn building was erected in Radeweller Weg / Straße der Befreiung. On March 1, 2013, the first tenants moved into the total of 126 residential units and six commercial units.

Local cooperation

The housing association "Eisenbahn" cooperates with the Eisenbahnersportgemeinschaft Halle e. V. and the Association of Patrons and Friends of the Halle Mountain Zoo .
