Faith Osier

Faith Hope Among'in Osier (* 1972 in Kenya ) is a Kenyan pediatrician, immunologist and professor whose main concern is the eradication of malaria . In addition, it has set itself the task of introducing young scientists in sub-Saharan Africa to top global research.

Faith Osier was born in Kenya in 1972. After graduating from high school, she studied at the University of Nairobi , where she graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Medicine (MBChB) degree. She then practiced for two years at the Coast General Provincial Hospital in Mombasa and then moved to the Kilifi District Hospital . She decided to specialize in pediatric medicine, moved to the UK and became a member of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health in England. She continued her medical studies at the University of Liverpool and graduated in 2004 with a thesis on the human immune system with a master's degree and distinction (best student of the year). In 2008 she completed her PhD at the Open University with a PhD in Biology with a dissertation entitled Immune Responses to Polymorphic Antigens and Protection against Severe Malaria in Kenyan Children . She then worked as a postdoc and pediatrician in Oxford and again in Kilifi in Kenya; since 2010 she has worked there as a clinical research assistant . From 2011 to 2013 she was also a research fellow at the Burnet Institute for Medical Research in Melbourne ( Australia ).

Career

After completing her doctorate, Osier devoted herself to research on her main concern, the fight against malaria and its eradication. Visiting professor . Receiving a prize from the Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council (UK) , she was awarded a visiting professorship in immunology at the University of Oxford in 2014 .
