The International Association of Immunology Societies (IUIS) , a member of the International Science Council (ISC) , is the international umbrella organization of national immunology societies in 83 states and four integral territorial sub-organizations. These include the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) , Federation of African Immunological Societies (FAIS) , Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania (FIMSA) and the Latin American Association of Immunology (ALAI) .

At an international immunology congress on May 5, 1969 in Bruges ( Belgium ), the representatives of 10 national immunology societies founded the IUIS and this is also the place and date of the Union's founding. The national founding societies were the American Association of Immunologists , the British Society for Immunology , the Canadian Society for Immunology , the Dutch Society for Immunology , the German Society for Immunology , the Israeli Immunological Society , the Polish Society of Immunology , the Scandinavian Society for Immunology , the Société Française d'immunologie and the Yugoslav Immunological Society . The representatives from Australia (Australian Society for Immunology) and Switzerland (Society of Allergy and Immunology) who were also present at this conference did not have the authority of their organizations to also participate as official founding members, but supported the project without reservation. Later, by decision of the council, they were also counted among the founding members

The society is divided into eleven commissions with defined assigned tasks:
