history
The origins of the wbg go back to the founding of the Nürnberger Wohnungsbauverein e. V. returned on March 22, 1918. On May 26, 1922, on the basis of a city council resolution of the previous month, the non-profit housing company of the city of Nuremberg mbH was founded as a legally more suitable form to continue the tasks of the building association , which then dissolves and transfers its assets to the building company. The housing stock increased from 322 rental units ( Mögeldorf ) in 1922 to 6,829 (1942), 8,245 (1955) to 17,958 in 2016. In 1991 the name was changed to the Housing Association of the City of Nürnberg mbH .
After the complete or partial destruction of 60% of its holdings at the end of the Second World War, the wbg u. a. significantly involved in the new construction of the Langwasser district in the southeast of Nuremberg in the 1950s to 1980s, in which many displaced persons and ethnic German repatriates found a new home and where the company's headquarters are still located today.
The 100th anniversary was celebrated on March 22, 2018 with a ceremony, and on June 7, 2018, an anniversary concert took place in the Nuremberg Meistersingerhalle and works from the art collection of the wbg will be presented in a special exhibition in the Nuremberg art villa shown.
