from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolbodo (also Volbodo , Fulmodo , Vilpodo ) († April 21, 1021 ) was Bishop of Liège from 1018 to 1021 . He is venerated as a saint .

Life

He came from Flanders and was educated at the cathedral school in Utrecht . After that he was there himself a scholaster . He became provost of St. Martin in Utrecht . Later he belonged to the court orchestra of Heinrich II . This transferred the diocese of Liège to Wolbodo.

At that time the church of the Jacobean monastery in Liège was completed. He himself founded the St. Laurentius Monastery. He also tried to reform the Lobbes monastery . He was particularly concerned about the veneration of saints. As a cathedral clergyman, he had a psalter made around 1000 which also contained a supplication to all saints who were venerated in the diocese. As bishop he later ordered that this psalter should be used in the worship services of all congregations. In the diocese calendar all holidays of saints were listed.

His life was described as particularly pious and charitable. He was buried in the St. Lorenz Church. After his death he was venerated as a saint. His feast day is April 21st. There is a vita of the saint of Reiner von St. Laurentius from around 1182. The occasion was a dispute about the origins of the monastery of St. Laurentius in Liège.
