The windmill Bentorf (also windmill Brink called) is a windmill in the district Bentorf the East Westphalian municipality Kalletal in Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . As the last still original and operational windmill in the Lippe district, it is protected as a monument .

description

The Bentorfer windmill is a Dutchman with louvre blades . The hull, made of rubble stones, is 14 meters high. The mill wings are ten meters long and two meters wide. A compass rose added around 1932 causes the blades to rotate independently against the wind. Originally the mill had a codend and had to be turned into the wind by hand. Inside the mill has three floors and two grinding aisles . Since 1890, the mill has had an electric motor as an additional drive so that it can grind even when there is no wind.

history

The Bentorf windmill was built in 1889 by the miller Hermann Ohsiek. The mill has been owned by the Brink family since 1928. The Brink family operated the mill as a customer mill until it was closed in 1988. Since 1990 the "Museumsverein Kalletal eV" has been working together with the owner family to look after and restore the mill in order to preserve it as an industrial monument for the general public. Restoration measures were carried out in several construction phases between 1990 and 1997. In 2009 the mill got new wings and the wooden wing cross was replaced by a more permanent steel rod cross.

The Bentorf windmill has been operated as a museum since 1992 and is open to visitors on open days and on request. If the weather permits, the historical milling process is shown.
