Wolf-Dietrich Miethling

Wolf-Dietrich Miethling (* 1949 in Berlin ) is a German sports scientist .

Life

From 1969, Miethling studied psychology, philosophy, sport and education at the University of Hamburg . In 1975 he obtained a diploma in psychology and then practiced as a psychologist and psychotherapist. In 1978 he passed his first state examination in sport.

From 1979 to 1981, Miethling worked as a research assistant in the field of sports science at the University of Education in Berlin , then at the Free University of Berlin . Between 1981 and 1985 he was a research assistant in the field of sports science at the University of Paderborn and completed his habilitation .

In 1990 and 1991 he was a substitute professor for sports didactics at the University of Hamburg. In 1991 he accepted a professorship at the University of Konstanz with a focus on sports education. He held this post until 2002. From 2002, Miethling was professor for sports education, didactics, history and philosophy at the Institute for Sports Science at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

From 1993 to 2005 he was co-editor of the magazine "Sportpädagogik", was one of the founders of the "Zeitschrift für Sportpädagogische Forschung" in 2012 and was then editor-in-chief of the paper and between 2012 and 2016 also managing co-editor.

In 2006 Miethling became a special appraiser of the German Research Foundation for the field of sports education for three years and held this office until 2009 and then again from 2010 to 2013. From 2006 to 2011 he was the chairman of the selection committee for the Ommo-Grupe Award for young sport pedagogues, and from 2006 to 2008 he was the speaker of the sport pedagogy section of the German Association for Sport Science .

From May 2016 to April 2018 he was chairman of the ethics council of the German Association for Sports Science and was re-elected from 2018 to 2020.

The main focus of Miethling's research activities included school sports from the perspective of students and teachers, sports game research, sports informatics and aspects of health sports (including sports for diabetics).
