Wolfdieter Maurer

Wolfdieter Maurer (* 1941 in Vienna ) is an internationally active Austrian conductor .

Maurer initially worked as a conductor and conductor with the Vienna Boys' Choir , then as a conductor at the Klagenfurt City Theater and the Basel Theater as well as at the State Theaters in Munich, Braunschweig and Oldenburg. Between 1979 and 1991 he was general music director and artistic director of the Mozart Festival in the city of Würzburg and lecturer at the local music academy.

From 1998 to 2001 he was chief conductor of the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava . On April 11, 2011, he conducted the National Symphony Orchestra of North Korea , which played the so-called "Immortal Hymn of the Revolution" (also " Song of General Kim Il-sung ") to celebrate Kim Il-sung's 99th birthday .
