Wolfgang Beywl
Wolfgang Beywl (born April 1, 1954 in Irlich ) is a German social scientist specializing as an evaluation practitioner and theoretician.
Life
Wolfgang Beywl studied sociology, political science and education at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , where he received his Magister Artium in 1977 . In 1988 he completed his doctorate in economics and its didactics, sociology and educational science at the University of Cologne . His dissertation dealt with the further development of evaluation methodology and took up the model of responsive evaluation, among other things. As a German evaluation pioneer, he was already using the professional title of “evaluator” in the mid-1980s.
From 1978 to 1999 Wolfgang Beywl worked alternately at universities (Bonn, Cologne and Wuppertal, Bern) and independent research institutions (Bonn Institute for Democracy Research, Klaus Novy Institute, Cologne). In 1996 he created the department for the evaluation of educational services at the University of Cologne, which he initially called Univation e. V., then as Univation Institute for Evaluation Dr. Beywl & Associates GmbH, founded as the first cross-thematic evaluation institute in Germany.
From 2003 to 2009, Beywl was the director of studies for the first German-language further education program Evaluation at the Center for University Further Education at the University of Bern. In 2010 he received the professorship for educational management, school and personnel development at the FHNW University of Education on the Brugg-Windisch campus and became the scientific director of the Univation evaluation institute in Cologne.
Beywl wrote numerous practical guides, monographs and articles on theory and methods of evaluation. He was a founding member and founding board member of the Society for Evaluation (DeGEval). He worked on the further development of the evaluation methodology in the field of program theory-driven evaluation (program tree) and responsive evaluation.
