Wolfgang Engel (doctor)
Wolfgang Engel (born November 18, 1940 in Ludwigshafen ; † December 7, 2015 in Lenglern ) was a German doctor and university professor. From 1977 to 2014 he headed the Institute for Human Genetics at the Medical Faculty of the University of Göttingen.
Life
Engel studied human medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , where he received his doctorate in 1967. At first he worked as an assistant doctor in the Schorndorf Hospital and in 1968 switched to the Institute for Human Genetics and Anthropology at the University of Freiburg as a research assistant. After completing his habilitation in 1974, he moved to the Institute for Human Genetics at the Georg-August University in Göttingen in 1977 . At times he was also the dean of the Medical Faculty in Göttingen. Among other things, Engel became known for his research results in the field of pluripotent stem cells.
