The German Society for Human Genetics ( GfH ) is a scientific specialist society for human genetics . It was founded in 1987 (then as the "Society for Human Genetics") on the sidelines of a meeting of the Society for Anthropology and Human Genetics . Since 1991 the association has been co-editor of the journal “ medical genetics ”, which was founded in 1989. Co-editor of the journal is initially the professional association medical genetics, since 2006 the journal medical genetics has been published solely by the DGfH. Since 1994 membership management of the DGfH has been carried out in the editorial office of the medical genetics journal. In 1997 the Society for Human Genetics was renamed the "German Society for Human Genetics". In 2004 the association founded the Academy for Human Genetics, which organizes advanced training events. The DGfH office has been in Munich since 2004.

GfH Medal of Honor

The highest record of the association is the GfH Medal of Honor, which is awarded to all those human geneticists "who have made a special contribution to human genetics in Germany due to their scientific achievement, their importance for human genetics and their overall personality."
