Wolfgang Grundmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang Grundmann (born June 1, 1948 ) is a former member of the terrorist organization Red Army Fraction (RAF). He is assigned to their first generation and was imprisoned from 1972 to 1976.

Life

Wolfgang Grundmann became a member of the first generation of the RAF in autumn 1970. Grundmann joined his girlfriend, Ingeborg Barz , who later became a member of the RAF , when the group returned to West Berlin after a stay in Jordan. On March 2, 1972, Grundmann and Manfred Grashof were caught in an apartment while entering a conspiratorial forgery workshop in Hamburg . There was an extensive exchange of fire in which the then 50-year-old police officer Hans Eckhardt was injured so badly that he later died. For this, Grashof was convicted of murder on June 2, 1977 .

In his criminal proceedings, Grundmann was represented by 15 defense lawyers, which contributed significantly to the fact that in 1977 the code of criminal procedure was changed so that a defendant may name a maximum of three defense lawyers . Grundmann's trial lasted almost two years. Despite the shooting, he could not be specifically accused of having committed a crime, as he was wearing a gun in his waistband, but apparently had not drawn it.

Grundmann was convicted of membership in a criminal organization and was released from prison in 1976 after becoming seriously ill.

Grundmann, who lives as a restaurateur in Marburg-Weidenhausen , was elected as the local council for the SPD in the local elections in Hesse in 2016 .
