Yabu Kentsū ( Japanese 屋 部 憲 通 ; * 1863 in Okinawa , Japan ; † 1937 ) was a master of karate and introduced the "military drill", according to which karate is still taught in most cases today. This earned him the nickname Yabu Gunso ("Sergeant") or Yabu Chusa ("Lieutenant").

Yabu was a student of Itosu Yasutsune and Matsumura Sōkon . Through his student Gima Makoto , his training style also had a strong influence on the development of Shotokan Ryu in Japan.

He was one of the first karate teachers to teach Itosu's concepts at Okinawa's schools, the teachers' college and the police academy. From 1919 he taught karate in the USA and eight years later he introduced karate in Hawaii.
