Wolfgang Kössner (born November 9, 1964 in Waidhofen an der Thaya ; † May 22, 1991 in Vienna ) was an Austrian police officer with the rank of district inspector who was violently killed on duty.

Life

On May 22, 1991, Andreas A.'s father asked for police intervention because he was threatened with a knife. When the officers arrived, Andreas A. also threatened them with the knife. When the officers tried to disarm him, he stabbed Revierinspektor Kössner in the chest, which injured the heart and as a result of which the officer died in the hospital that same day. The perpetrator was shot and arrested by another officer. He was sent to an institution for mentally abnormal law breakers.

The Wolfgang-Kössner-Park in the 2nd Viennese district Leopoldstadt was named after him in 1999.

A memorial plaque for the policeman was put up in the guard room at Expositionstrasse .
