Wolfgang Kehr (Librarian)

Wolfgang Kehr (born July 8, 1931 in Darmstadt ) is a German librarian .

Life

Wolfgang Kehr, brother of the violinist, conductor and musicologist Günter Kehr , studied in Mainz and Marburg , where he passed the state examination in English, German and philosophy in 1955. In 1957 he received his doctorate with a thesis on John Cowper Powys . He then began training for library services in Darmstadt and Cologne, and from 1959 worked at the Frankfurt City and University Library . From September 1st, 1967 until his retirement in 1994, he was director of the Freiburg University Library . During his term of office the modernization of the library, the cataloging of the medieval manuscripts and the incunabula in the libraries of Freiburg and the surrounding area, as well as the publication of the printed catalogs, the description of the historical book holdings from the 15th to 19th centuries fell.
