Wolfgang Maria Gran

Wolfgang Maria Gran (born April 22, 1962 in Schladming ) is an Austrian journalist , musician and author .

Life

Wolfgang Maria Gran worked in daily newspaper and magazine journalism for more than 30 years. While studying journalism and political science, he began to write for the “Salzburger Volkszeitung”, at the age of 22 he switched to “Kurier”, where he was deputy head of the Salzburg office for five years and, at the same time, as a correspondent for the “Wochenpresse” specializing in politics and reporting worked. Among other things, he made a name for himself in the industry early on with reports on the resistance to the reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf (Bavaria) and unusual interviews. In 1988 he moved to the “Salzburger Nachrichten” and then to the “Kronen Zeitung”, where he headed the sports department in Salzburg for ten years and was involved in major events such as the World and European Football Championships and the Olympic Games.

At the end of December 2014, Gran left the daily newspaper business at his own request to work with the top international photographer Joachim Bergauer as a freelance journalist and author from July 2015 under the common name "BQ Media". Mainly international reports and interviews for magazines and newspapers, but also joint book projects are on the agenda. Wolfgang Maria Gran was already successful as a book author. His biography of the former world-class soccer player and former Austrian national coach Hans Krankl was number 1 in the Austrian bestseller lists for almost twelve weeks.

In addition to his work as a journalist and author, Gran has also been active as a musician since 1981. For many years he toured with his rhythm & blues band "Rock & Blues'n", and in 2003 he released the CD "A scheena Bua" on EMI. After a seven-year break he founded the Austro blues formation "Howling Wuif Project" in early 2012, in which well-known Austrian musicians play and in spring 2015 produced the CD "Gspusi mitn Teufl".
