Wolfgang May

Wolfgang May (* unknown) is a former German automobile racing driver .

Career

Wolfgang May started his motorsport career in touring car racing in 1969 . At the Prize of Tirol, a non-championship race, he won the TS + 1.6 class victory in a BMW 2002 in 1969 .

In 1971 he started for the Schnitzer team in a BMW 2002 in some races. In Mainz-Finthen he secured victory in the T2.0 class and in the same year he celebrated the class win in the Roßfeld race, which he was able to repeat in 1973.

In 1973 he drove with Sepp Manhalter for the Schnitzer team in two races of the 1st division of the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC). The races in Monza and on the Salzburgring both could not finish because of engine failure in the BMW 2002. At the same time, he started in the 2nd division of the German Racing Championship (DRM). At the DRM run in Mainz-Finthen he finished fourth and the Sauerland hill climb he finished third.

The next season he started again with a BMW 2002 in the ETCC in Monza and on the Salzburgring. In Monza he finished sixth and the Salzburgring race he finished seventh in the 1st division ranking. In the DRM he started five races in the 2nd division. At the DMV Rheinpokal race in Hockenheim he achieved his best run position in the racing series with second place. At the end of the DRM season , he finished ninth.

In 1975 he drove with Gerd Herrmann in the BMW 2002 TI at the ETCC race in the 1st division on the Salzburgring and finished the race in fourth place. Three years later, Wolfgang May started again with a BMW 530i in the 4th division of the ETCC on the Salzburgring. However, he could not classify himself. Then he ended his motorsport career.
