Ronald Baumbach (born July 16, 1967 ) is a former German soccer player .

Athletic career

On April 10, 1987, Baumbach made his debut in the top division of GDR football for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in its starting line-up. The debut game for the defender, who was regularly playing at RWE II at that time , ended on matchday 20 of the 1986/87 season in the 1: 3 away defeat against SG Dynamo Dresden with a dismissal shortly after the first half: “Beside Weidemann and Oevermann sat on the bench with Ettrichrätz and Petermann district league players, and Roland Baumbach, one of them, moved into the big league spotlight for the first time. But only for 55 minutes, which were bitter for the 19-year-old, but also instructive. His last appearance, however, should not have been this prematurely ending first for the red-whites. With his courageous manner, he should also appear positively in the foreseeable future! "

The 1.74 meter tall footballer, who learned to play football at BSG Aufbau Pferdsdorf, had his next appearance for Erfurt in the Oberliga, almost two years later on the 18th matchday of the 1988/89 season in a 2-1 home win over 1 FC Lok Leipzig . In the meantime Baumbach had played for the BSG activist Kali Werra Tiefenort and until March 1989 for the BSG Robotron Sömmerda in the second-class league . In this division he had already played the first two matches for FC Rot-Weiß II in the men's division in 1985/86 .

In the last independent season of East German first division football , Baumbach and the Red-Whites reached third place, both directly qualifying for the first season of the all-German 2nd Bundesliga and making the leap into the European Cup . In the 2nd Bundesliga (22 appearances) and in the UEFA Cup (three out of four games) the defensive strength was one of the regular players at RWE in 1991/92 . The Thuringians did not succeed in relegation and the UEFA Cup ended in round 2 against Ajax Amsterdam .

In the third-class amateur league in the NOFV area , Baumbach was still a year in the FC Rot-Weiß squad. After the 1992/93 season in the southern season of the NOFV Oberliga , the now 26-year-old defender moved to SG Rot-Weiss Frankfurt in the summer of 1993 . Later, the former first division kicker also played at VfB Giessen .

After the end of his active career, Baumbach worked, among other things, as a football coach at an amateur level. For example, in the 2014/15 season he appeared as the coach of the district league club FV Bürgeln or was the coach of SV Schönstadt in the 2015/16 season with games in Group 1 of the district league B Marburg .
