Wolfgang Paul (diplomat)

Wolfgang Paul (* 1947 ) is a former Austrian ambassador .

Life

Wolfgang Paul studied law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in law . He also completed a master's degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science .

He is married and has three children.

Diplomatic career

From 1987 to 1991 he was envoy-counselor in Prague . He was deputy director of the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna . From 1997 to 2002 he was ambassador to Tel Aviv . From 2002 to 2007 he was Deputy Director General for Legal and Consular Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2008 to 2012 he was Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Since his retirement, Paul has been the honorary special commissioner for the Mauthausen Memorial in Upper Austria, employee of the Austrian State Archives and member of the Honorary Board of "1938-Remembrance", the "Vienna Project" of the Jewish-American-Austrian artist Karen Frostig, with the Shoah and all of their victims, the "annexation" of Austria to Nazi Germany and the participation of Austrians in Nazi crimes are remembered.
