Wolfgang Poel

Peter Wolfgang Poel (born January 14, 1841 in Itzehoe ; † July 2, 1926 ) was a German judge who did outstanding work for the Alsterdorfer Anstalten .

Life

Poel was born as the second son of Gustav Poel in Itzehoe. Baptism witnesses on March 15th were Johann Georg Rist (Conference Councilor and Government Councilor), Charles Hanbury, Hamburg (Royal Hanover Minister- Resident ), and Pieter Poel , Odessa.

Wolfgang Poel grew up in Itzehoe and attended the scholar school in Plön. From May 2, 1859 he studied law in Kiel and was active in the Corps Holsatia . He received his training in Schleswig-Holstein-Lauenburg and then became official secretary in Itzehoe (Steinburg Office) and Reinbek. He was then royal Prussian magistrate from September 1, 1867 to April 1, 1878 in Flensburg, later a district judge in Altona and since October 1, 1879 a judge at the district court in Hamburg, most recently district court director.

Wolfgang Poel married Auguste Kossak in 1872 in Königsberg i. Pr. There were 2 sons from the marriage, both of whom died in the First World War .

In retirement after January 1, 1905, Wolfgang Poel initially lived until May 19, 1911 at the Charlottenhöhe estate near Itzehoe he had acquired in 1903, and later in Lübeck. He recorded his memoirs ( self-experiences ), which are kept in the Hamburg State Archives with an associated register.

Wolfgang Poel was a member of the board of directors from 1888 to 1905, then chairman and finally honorary member of the board of the "Alsterdorfer Anstalten" in Hamburg, today the Evangelical Foundation Alsterdorf .
