Wolfgang Taucher (lawyer)

Wolfgang Taucher (* 1963 in Upper Austria ) is an Austrian lawyer and currently director of the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum , which replaced the former Federal Asylum Office in Austria on January 1, 2014.

After studying law in Graz, he worked as a university assistant at the Institute for International Law at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz . From 1988 to 1996 he was legal advisor at the headquarters of Caritas Austria , and in 1992 also briefly assigned legal advisor in the office of the UN refugee commissioner in Vienna. In 1996 he took over the management of the Federal Asylum Office.

In February 2013, Wolfgang Taucher was elected Chairman of the Management Board of the European Asylum Support Office . In 2013 he was awarded the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
