EASO

The European Asylum Support Office questions (EASO, English European Asylum Support Office ) is a Community agency of the European Union based in Valletta in Malta . She is responsible for supporting the cooperation of the EU member states in the field of asylum . EASO was established in 2010 by Regulation (EU) No. 439/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of May 19, 2010.

tasks

EASO's task is to strengthen practical cooperation between EU member states in the asylum field. To this end, it participates in the implementation of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and supports Member States whose asylum systems are particularly burdened. It researches and publishes relevant information for asylum authorities on frequent countries of origin in COI reports (Country of Origin Information).

EASO has no authority to influence decisions by national asylum authorities on individual asylum applications.

structure

The EASO is overseen by an Administrative Board, a planning and monitoring body. It consists of representatives sent by member states (one representative per member state), two members of the European Commission and the UNHCR as a permanent member without voting rights.

The Board of Directors appoints the Executive Director, who in turn is advised by an Executive Committee composed of six members of the Board of Directors.

EASO can set up working groups with experts from the field of asylum. There is also an Advisory Board for cooperation with non-governmental organizations and civil society institutions, the work of which is coordinated by the Executive Director.
