Wolfhard Wimmenauer

Wolfhard Wimmenauer (born May 8, 1922 in Leverkusen ) is a German petrograph and retired university professor.

Scientific career

Wimmenauer received his doctorate in 1948 at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg and completed his habilitation there in 1952. In 1959 he was appointed adjunct professor and in 1967 took over the chair for mineralogy at the University of Freiburg.

Act

The main research area of ​​Wimmenauer was and is rock science. In this area he published, among other things, a textbook and many special papers, especially on topics from southwest Germany. In addition to his work as a university lecturer, Wimmenauer also presented the knowledge of mineralogy to a broader public of laypeople in lectures and writings. Even in his ninth decade, he still gives lectures and presents his extensive knowledge on excursions. His book Between Fire and Water , published in 1992, is exemplary of his public work .
