The Wolfsberg in Duisburg-Wedau is located in the middle of the local recreation area of the Sechs-Seen-Platte . It is a wooded rubble and slag dump with a height of 28 meters on an area of 6 hectares. A blue painted steel observation tower has stood on its summit since 2005, after the previous wooden building fell victim to arsonists. At 63.1 m above sea level, it is the second highest publicly accessible point in Duisburg after the Kaiserberg at Duisburg Zoo. In good weather you can see from the platform to the Cologne area.

Before the city of Duisburg bought the area in the middle of the 20th century and expanded it into a local recreation area, the gravel pits of Count von Spee were found here in the Huckinger Mark . The material was used in steel production. It was transported from the nearby Wedau freight station to the steel works.

Where the Wolfsberg stands today, there was an ammunition depot for the Luftwaffe and an artillery plant during World War II.

Between 1969 and 1974 the site was used as a landfill for garbage, industrial waste and rubble. The establishment at that time did not care much about environmental standards. The names Monte Schlacko, Monte Schrotto or Monte Klamotto, as the locals call this hill, suggests that everything was really disposed of here. The dump was declared a suspected contaminated site . After taking soil samples in 2003, pollution has been regularly checked at four groundwater measuring points since then . In addition, care must be taken to ensure that no seepage water gets into the adjacent quarry ponds or even into the groundwater. According to the authorities, there is currently no risk to the environment.

In 1996 the Wedau / Bissingheim Citizens' Association built a wooden observation tower on Wolfsberghalde. It burned down on July 27, 2002. In 2006, the 22 meter high successor building made of steel was opened. It was donated by Thyssen Krupp Steel AG and Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH.
