WoltLab Community Framework ( WCF ) is a framework , also called Community Framework . It offers simple administration and a clear interface. The WCF contains the so-called template scripting, which was modeled on the template engine Smarty , and has a dynamic group system.

The WCF became known through the forum software WoltLab Burning Board from version 3, which comes from the same manufacturer WoltLab GmbH .

By licensing the WCF in the LGPL license type , every developer can now use this system in their own products within the framework of the LGPL license. A developer does not necessarily have to sell his product under the same license type as the WCF.

The WCF was developed completely object-oriented in PHP 5 and provides support for modular packages.

The lack of documentation, which would make it easy to get started, is criticized. There is only a technical reference.

The WCF 2 has been publicly developed on GitHub since July 14, 2011 . Developers can track changes more easily and actively contribute their own ideas.

WoltLab Community

Until 2011, the official contact point for the WCF was the “WoltLab Community”, or WCom for short , where developers could find out more about technical details and customers could find out about the desired end applications and extensions. Then it was replaced by the WoltLab Plugin Store, which also enables commercial plugins / end applications to be offered. The support forum was merged with the community forum and has since operated under the name WoltLab Community Forum.

The WCOM presented its own package server ready, which enabled end users to centrally install applications for the WCF online.
