On the 305 meter long and 18 meter high route, visitors drive past large-format projections with virtual targets at which they can shoot with “ pistols ” attached to the car . In addition to various special effects, such as wind, visitors are treated with 3D effects while driving , which are created by wearing 3D glasses . After Boo Blasters on Boo Hill, the track is the second interactive dark ride and the 17th roller coaster in Canada's Wonderland .

history

When Canada's Wonderland carried out work on the western side of the artificial Wonder Mountain massif at the end of July 2013 , speculations arose about a new attraction for the 2014 season. On August 30, 2013, the new attraction called "Wonder Mountain's Guardian" was officially announced on regional breakfast television for Toronto. In mid-January 2014, the first pieces of rail from Art Engineering arrived in the park. About a month later, the installation of the rails in the artificial massif began. At the end of February, the projection surfaces for the 3D sequences were installed. After the first supports outside the attraction were erected at the beginning of March, the lift hill was completed at the beginning of April . Wonder Mountain's Guardian finally officially opened on May 24, 2014 .

journey

Wonder Mountain's Guardian Station

After the train has been released by the park staff, it leaves the station, takes a 180 ° curve to the right and reaches the 18-meter-high lift hill. Once at the top, the train slides to the right in a small descent, drives to the other side of Wonder Mountain and, after an inclined right- hand bend, goes into the interior of the artificial mountain range. While the train is decelerated to walking speed and the individual cars are turned to the right, a gate closes behind him at the entrance of the mountain to darken the room. A voice can be heard off-screen that the visitors should shoot the opponents. The first scene takes place in a forest-like environment with spiders and bats as targets. In the next scene there are dragons and troll-like figures before the camera dips into a lake and the visitors have to defend themselves against aquatic life. At the end of the sequence, the train crosses a virtual waterfall. More dragons follow as targets before the train comes to a stop in a room full of gold treasures on the invisible free-fall element. After a fire-breathing kite appears, the section of the rail falls around nine meters to the ground. The train then rolls down from the freefall element and the cars are rotated back to their starting position in the direction of travel. To the side of the route, the number of points reached is displayed for each passenger, depending on the number of targets hit. After a left turn, the train returns to the station.

technology

rail

Wonder Mountain's Guardian's steel rail is 305 meters long and at its highest point, the top of the lift hill, reaches a height of 18 meters. While on the outside the rails are painted gray and the supports are painted beige, on the inside both rails and supports are black. In addition, the railway holds the world record for the longest interactive 3D screen with its 150-meter-long and four-meter-high projection surface next to the rail.

Trains

Wonder Mountain's Guardian has five trains with two cars each. Each car has two rows of seats, each offering space for two people, so that a train can hold eight passengers. Each seat has its own lap bar and a light gun . The theoretical capacity is around 650 passengers per hour.

Manufacturer

The running system (rails and trains) of the railway were supplied by the German company Art Engineering from Oberried im Breisgau . The technology for the interactive dark ride part comes from the Canadian motion simulator specialist Triotech Amusement from Montreal .
