Woo Hee-jong

Woo Hee-jong ( Korean : 우희종 , born January 21, 1958 ) is a South Korean professor and politician . He has been teaching and researching at the Veterinary Faculty of Seoul University since 1992 with a focus on veterinary immunology. He was chairman of the platform party with Choi Bae-geun .

After graduating from Seoul University with a bachelor's degree in veterinary science in 1981 , he completed his master’s degree and doctorate degree from Tokyo University . He then worked in the United States at the University of Pennsylvania , Wistar Institute and Harvard University . In 2008, he sharply criticized the Lee Myung-bak government's plan to import US beef under much more relaxed conditions because of the increased BSE risk compared to domestic beef products. In spring 2020, together with other members of civil society, he founded the platform party for the upcoming parliamentary elections in April and chaired it together with Choi Bae-geun.
