Wormiston House

Wormiston House is a mansion near the Scottish town of Crail in the Council Area Fife . In 1984 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B as an individual monument . The associated pigeon house, however, is classified as a monument of the highest monument category A.

history

At the time of construction, the Wormiston lands belonged to the Spens family. In 1612 the Wormiston family sold to the Balfour family. Wormiston, in turn, sold it to Clan Lindsay in 1621 . The Spens later bought back Wormiston. A shallower annex was added in the late 17th or early 18th centuries. Building parts were added again in 1802 and 1858. The existing structure was also revised in both construction phases. In 1972 the property was listed as vacant.

description

Wormiston House is isolated around 1.5 km north of Crail. From the elongated, three-story building, there are several wings from the various phases of construction, some of which are only two-story. Its facades are plastered with Harl , the roofs covered with slate. The gables are designed as a simple stepped gable . The cantilevered tower in the interior corner was added in 1802. A three-story tower with crenellated reinforcement rises from the west wing.

Pigeon house

The pigeon house is around 50 m west of the manor house. It was probably built in the early 17th century. The brickwork of the elongated building is plastered with Harl. Curved dormers with entry possibilities are embedded in the final roof . The interior is divided into two rooms with stone nesting boxes.
