Worsley Old Hall is the former home and seat of the Earl of Bridgewater in the Worsley district of Salford , Greater Manchester in England. Was in this building in 1761 opened 66 kilometers long Bridgewater Canal by Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater planned and the construction of the channel monitored, the improved transport of its coal mines in Worsley to Manchester.

history

The original half-timbered house dates from the early 16th century and was expanded in the early 17th century. It was rebuilt in the 18th century and the east wing added in 1855. In 1906 a billiard room was set up. There were other internal changes in the 20th century, most notably in the 1990s when it was converted into a restaurant.

Today the inn and restaurant on Walkden Road (A575) in Worsley is a popular destination and one of the city's tourist attractions. It has been a listed building (Reference no. 1288296) by the English Heritage since 1966 . The building was renovated in August 2013 and reopened in December 2013.
