Word of the year (Saxony)
The Saxon word of the year has been chosen since 2008. This award was brought to life by the Ilse Bähnert Foundation , which makes the selection in cooperation with the German faculty of the Technical University of Dresden . According to the foundation, the aim of this election is as follows: "Dying Saxon words are to be saved, the Saxon language is cultivated and cherished, people are aware of their euphoria and the dialect is promoted as an important part of the German language."
Until 2017, the word of the year was chosen in three categories:
- most beautiful ,
- most threatened [Saxon] word of the year on the day of German unity ,
- most popular word of the year chosen through online voting.
A Saxon word of the year has also been selected in a special category since 2018. This was the case for the first time with the swear word of the year . In 2019, the Saxon term was chosen.
