Vsevolod Vladimirovich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vsevolod Vladimirovich (Russian Все́волод Влади́мирович ) (around 983/984 - before 1013) was the first prince of Volhynia (around 987–1008 / 1013).

Life

Vsevolod was probably born in 983 or 984. He was the son of Prince Vladimir the Great and his wife Rogneda . In 987 or 988, Vsevolod was appointed by his father as the first prince in the newly founded principality of Volhynia.

In a Nordic saga, a prince Vissavald was reported, who asked for the hand of the Swedish Queen Sigrid the proud around 995 and was killed in the process. The name suggests Vsevolod, but probably meant his brother Vysheslav of Novgorod .

In 1008 or 1013 he no longer lived when the Principality of Volhynia was conquered by Polotsk from Jaropolk.

  3. Vsevolod was not older than 11 years old and ruled far away from Swedish interests. Vysheslav was about 18 years old and ruled Novgorod in the immediate vicinity of the Swedish sphere of influence. The details of the saga are not historically secure.
