Vysheslav Vladimirovich ( Russian Вышеслав Владимирович ; * around 977; † 1010/14) was Prince of Novgorod (around 990-1010 / 14) and the eldest son of Vladimir the Great .

Life

There is little information about his life. He was the oldest mentioned son of Vladimir the Great. His mother was Allogia, a Bohemian princess or Olofa from Sweden. His year of birth must have been before 978.

Around 990 he became Prince of Novgorod . Between 1010 and 1014 his half-brother Yaroslav the Wise became Prince of Novgorod. The year of his death is unknown.

The saga of Olav Tryggvason tells of a prince Vissavald who is said to have asked for the hand of Sigrid the proud around 995 . Vysheslav was probably meant. The historicity of this saga is not certain in the details.
