Wulfhar of Minden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wulfhar († September 15, 886 in Minden ; also: Wulfar or Wolfer ) was the fourth bishop of Minden from 880 to 886.

Wulfhar was probably cancellarius (also under the name Wolfher) before his bishopric election with King Ludwig the German and until 880 under Ludwig III. (Eastern Franconia) in Frankfurt. Wulfhar's predecessor in the episcopate, Theoderich died in the terrible battle with the Normans on February 2, 880 near Ebstorf . This victory of the Normans brought about the pushing back of the Slavs into the Christian-German area. While defending against these advancing Slavs, Wulfhar found his death in Minden.
