Wound ballistics

When projectiles penetrate the body of an animal or a person, they cause a temporary wound cavity due to the rapid release of energy during the deceleration . It collapses within fractions of a second to form a permanent wound cavity . When the energy output of the projectile is large enough, "pulsating cavitation " occurs; the temporary wound cavity collapses due to the elasticity of the tissue and inflates again.
