Wupper Theater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wupper Theater is an intercultural theater in Wuppertal that has existed since 1991 .

history

The founders of the theater "with Turkish roots" (self-portrayal), which initially had traditional venues in Wuppertal , were today's director Barbara Krott , Vedat Erincin , Lilay Huser and Meray Ülgen . From the mid-1990s onwards, the theater had become so well established that it increasingly received funding, which was not the case in the first few years of its existence.

program

The Wupper Theater, which has been multi-culturally oriented from the start and also functions as a touring theater primarily in West Germany, deals thematically with the “interface between the Middle East and Central Europe” in many of its productions. Pieces based on material by Dido Sotiriu , Yaşar Kemal , Güngör Dilmen , Friedrich Ani , Emine Erdem and Safeta Obhođaš were developed , as well as the ensemble members' own pieces and cabaret programs. The Wuppertheater also brought some German premieres by renowned authors, e.g. B. Hanif Kureishi's Borderline (1981) under the title On Borders . In addition, in 2002 the cooperation with institutions and theaters from the Bergisch region began. Workshops and other offers for young people such as the children's theater, which has been firmly anchored from the start, are also organized by the Wupper Theater.

Award

In 2003 the youth project Unheimlich des Theater , organized as part of the town twinning with Košice in cooperation with the Kulturbüro Wuppertal, was awarded a “Golden Star” by the EU.
